Homestays in Shergaon
If you’re looking for a peaceful mountain getaway without the tourist rush, Shergaon in Arunachal Pradesh is one place you should definitely visit.
Located in the West Kameng district, Shergaon is a beautiful Sherdukpen village surrounded by apple orchards, old monasteries, and the Eastern Himalayan ranges. Life here moves at its own pace — mornings start with birdsong, days are spent exploring apple farms, waterfalls, or monasteries, and evenings end around warm cups of tea while the mountain air cools down.
I’ve been exploring this side of Arunachal for a while now, and trust me, Shergaon is perfect if you want a mix of nature, culture, and farm life. In this blog, I’m sharing everything you need to know — from how to reach Shergaon, best stay options, farmstay experiences, to what Shergaon is famous for.
1. How to Reach Shergaon

Shergaon is actually one of the nearest hill stations from Guwahati, just around 220 km away. You can reach it in about 6–7 hours by road, and there are two main routes:
- Via Tangla – Udalguri – Bhairabkunda Road – If you’re traveling from Guwahati, I strongly recommend this route. Roads are in good condition, it’s shorter, and the drive is really scenic.
- Via Tezpur – Another option if you want to stop at Tezpur on the way. The roads are equally good, but it takes a little longer than the Udalguri route.
2. What Makes Shergaon Special

Shergaon is famous for its apple orchards, Sherdukpen culture, and monasteries. The State Horticulture Farm here grows more than 40 apple varieties, along with pears, persimmons, cherries, and walnuts.
It’s also home to ancient monasteries like Zengbu Gonpa and ruins like Thungee Gonpa, some dating back to the 17th century. The Sherdukpen tribe celebrates unique festivals, keeps their traditions alive, and that cultural touch makes Shergaon feel warm and welcoming.
And yes, if you love fish, the region also has trout hatcheries where you can see rainbow trout farming — and in some farmstays, you can even catch your own fish for dinner!
3. Stay Options in Shergaon

Right now, Shergaon has about 42 homestays and farmstays, with prices ranging between ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 per night depending on the facilities.
Because Shergaon is so close to Guwahati, many people come here on weekends just to escape city life. So my tip would be: always book your stay in advance. During apple blossom season or holidays, places fill up quickly.
Here are some stays I recommend:
Redberry Homestay
This was actually the first homestay in Shergaon. The hosts also organize farm tours and cultural experiences, but you need to book these in advance. You can always reach out to us through the Trip to Farm app, and we can help you plan it all.
Lamas Homestay
Right in the center of Shergaon, Lamas Homestay serves home-cooked food and even traditional rice wine if you inform them early. The host here is super friendly, and you can also cook your own meals if you want.
Blissful Himalayan Homestay
Close to Lamas Homestay, this one has spacious rooms, car parking, and both Indian and Western bathrooms. They don’t cook at the homestay but arrange food from nearby restaurants.
Natikho Homestay (Near Jenbu Gompa)
Perfect if you want to stay close to spiritual sites. Neat and clean rooms, self-cooking facilities, and a peaceful environment make it a good choice for families or couples.
4. Shergaon Farmstay Experiences
If you love staying close to nature, farmstays in Shergaon will be a real treat. Here’s what I’ve explored so far:
- Oakview Farmstay – One of the most budget-friendly stays (starts at ₹1,500). They grow kiwi, apple, grapes, persimmon, peach, and pear. You get farm-cooked meals, and they have rainbow trout farming where you can even catch fish from the pond! Plus, a mountain stream called Doblo-kho flows right behind the property.
- Fins Farmstay – Rooms start at ₹2,000. Known for rainbow trout fish farming and tasty local farm meals prepared fresh every day.
- Shergaon Farmstay – This one is located on the outskirts at a higher elevation. Along with fruit orchards, they have a turkey farm here. Rooms are cozy, and you get farm-fresh meals too.
- Shakchi Inn Farmstay – Very close to the State Horticulture Apple Farm. They have rainbow trout farming and serve fresh home-cooked food.
- Nordon Farmstay – If you’re coming via the Tangla–Udalguri road, this is the first farmstay before Shergaon. There’s an apple orchard, and the Doblo-kho stream also flows right behind it, making it perfect for a peaceful stay.
And remember, all these stays can be booked directly through our Trip to Farm mobile app. If you need suggestions, just contact us, and we’ll help you choose the best one based on your budget and preference.
